Starcraft 2510 RXI

Robert Stephens Ever see that TV commercial where the three men are playing with the tools in Sears? They act like giggly little kids, fooling around with drills and air hoses. That’s kind of how we felt in the cockpit of the Starcraft’s biggest toy, the 2510 RXI. This is Starcraft’s first boat over 25 feet, and you can tell they had fun creating it. But not as much fun as we had testing the first model out of the factory. In the driver’s seat our 6-foot-plus testers transformed into little people at the wheel of a luxury car. Feet nearly dangled above the floor, the seat back came up to our necks and the windshield frame rose above scalps. Further up, an optional radar arch towered, and in full view forward sat a buffet of instruments (including a big above-dash Ritchie compass). So we slid the double-wide helm seat forward and played with a few buttons near the burlwood dash. One press of a touch pad sent music flowing through the cockpit. A flick of another remote switch initiated a hum as the transom step became a rising engine hatch. Underneath, a 6.2L MerCruiser MPI waited to be cranked. As expected, this 4,000-pound pleasure ride was a little sluggish from 0-15 mph. But more importantly for a big bowrider, at hole shot the bow only tipped up a matter of centimeters. Passengers in the deep, romper-room-size bow sat as low and comfortable as they would in an oversized beanbag chair. It's cozy for them and great for driver visibility. Storage areas under the starboard lounge (one of three full lounge seats) and in the floor are gargantuan. Other toys on our test model included a freshwater hose at the transom, a second stereo remote and an extended swim platform, and yes, a convenient Porta Potti and private changing room for kids of every size. Nice Touches 1. Two full loungers in the bow sit low, with lots of freeboard 2. Bow has cupholders, speakers and grab handles, all recessed 3. All walkways into the bow and cockpit are wide 4. Ritchie compass is among full array of standard instruments 5. Double-wide helm seat and flip-up bolster make for a comfortable pilot area
