Navini Networks and Unwired Off to a Flying Start With World's Largest Non-Line-of-Sight Portable Wireless Broadband Network
Customers Attracted to Simple, Portable and Competitively Priced Broadband Service
RICHARDSON, Texas, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Unwired Australia Pty Limited, Australia's leading provider of high-speed wireless broadband, has announced strong customer takeup of its wireless broadband service in Sydney, Australia using technology from Navini Networks, Inc., the leading provider of non-line- of-sight, zero-install(TM) portable wireless broadband technology."We grabbed 17 percent(1) market share of new broadband users in Sydney," said David Spence, president and CEO, Unwired. That's almost 14,000 in less than five months."
Unwired's initial Sydney network has 70 sites covering more than 1,200 square miles and 3.5 million potential Sydney users making it the largest network of its type in the world. A major component of Unwired's success has been its strong channel strategy. Its largest channel is retail with 63 percent of new customers.
"We are very pleased with our customer take-up so far. It clearly demonstrates that wireless broadband is not a niche technology but a serious competitor to existing broadband technologies," said Spence.
"It also shows that Unwired has a compelling proposition for customers. The fact that we offer a simple, portable and competitively priced broadband service is attracting a strong customer base," Spence added.
"Navini Networks shares Unwired's vision of providing easy to use, portable high speed broadband to Australians in cities and regional areas," said Roger Dorf, president and chief executive officer of Navini Networks. "And Navini's equipment will ensure that Unwired is correctly positioned for future wireless standards by providing seamless upgrade to WiMAX 802.16e standard."
Directly competing against ADSL and cable broadband providers, 70 percent(2) of Unwired customers chose Unwired over other broadband providers.
"Consumers are getting what they want ... broadband service that is personal, portable, and plug-n-play," added Dorf. "Navini Networks and Unwired are making that possible today."
Unwired has targeted Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and other key regions in Australia for service expansion. That expansion will take place after the Sydney customer base is established.
