The dpi is a little too low to print out clear images. One problem I had is the watermark, it will print the image exactly as is. When I used the watermark feature, I checked the transparent box, when it printed out it is the same as the original picture. from Woodland Hills, CA I received one of Buy.com s regular email offers for this printer at an amazing price with a rebate so I purchased it as I was in need of a laser printer and didn t want to spend a ton on it. Mind you, my first and only other laser printer I purchased in 1989 for 3 grand. It lasted me about 12 years, but when it died I did not replace it. Since then I ve used ink jets. Which are great for low volume color printing, but I often need to print out 120 page scripts. It s painfully slow and expensive to use ink-jet for that. The Brother 2040 is fast, quiet, and economical. It goes to sleep after 5 minutes which saves power. The toner is way cheaper than black ink. It has plenty of memory built in. The type is crisp and clear. Graphics print nicely. And since it s on our Airport network here at the house, anyone can print to it. We still use ink for our color needs, but this pup is saving me time and money. I ve already recommended it to someone else. Really for the price it does what it s supposed to and like any technology it has a few little quirks which I ve learned how to deal with.....But all in all it s terrific! cable internet isp

Therefore, my comments, technically are about the 2010 but I can t imagine the younger brother, the 2040 being that much different. For the price, what can I say It s great; with the rebate, its even better. I have two complaints. The first is that it runs out of toner too fast for my liking (and cartridges are not cheap!). The other is that the tray system broke in front because it was held up by a rather fragile plastic holder. It still works but it just doesn t look that hot. It works well except that when set to duplex mode (when you need to print on both sides of a sheet of paper) if you need to print only one page it does not print since duplex makes it start printing on odd page numbers so it starts printing page 2 which is blank in this case. Installation was simple and being able to commect it with a cat5 network cable through my router makes it easy to find a spot for it in a crowded room. It also means that if you are using more than one PC, you no longer need to leave a machine running to act as a print server. Think of the electricity savings alone. Has a huge paper capacity when compared to my old HP. Printing quality is excellent. It is super fast, even when waiting for it to warm up. It is a bit noisy when actually printing, but what printer isn t. When in stand by mode, there is no noise. I would purcahse this printer again, and have recommended it to friends. 5/5 all around. The initial setup took only a few minutes, but the neatest feature was on the CD that comes with the printer. It s the Driver Deployment Wizard which creates an executable file that can be deployed to other PCs on the network. After installing the printer on the first PC, I used the Driver Deployment Wizard to create an EXE file, which I put into a shared folder that all of the other PCs (10) could access. All I had to do from the other PCs was go to this folder, execute the program, and everything was set up; driver, IP address, and all. The installation from the included CD was dead simple and we were up and printing within 15 minutes of opening the box. The printer has USB connections if you just want to attach to a single PC, but the real beauty of this printer is it s ethernet network capability. You only have to run the software from each machine to install the driver and discover the network address (DHCP normally, based on your DHCP server or router). The printer has performed reliably and flawlessly since installation and now, 7 months later, we are STILL on the original toner cartrige. Network print speeds are very reasonable; even from a sleep state, you can usually have your first page out within 30 seconds of clicking on the print button and subsequent pages even quicker. Another great feature of this printer is its small footprint, taking up no more space than a consumer-grade inkjet. I have even used an Verizon Air Card to view and though the quality is less then best because of the slower speed (not WIFI) I can still enjoy programing. It works just as it says it does and is so simple to install. Only problem which is minor is the Remote for my DVD is the bare minimum and I can t control all the functions of my DVD. Well, it was dissappointing to find out you need to spend another $75 to get the Hi-Def connection cables. So far I ve hooked it up to the cable box and can watch any content from that device (live and recorded). I haven t connected to my 400 disk DVD play yet, but will be doing that soon. The instructions don t cover how to configure remote controlling a second device, it only shows using both IR probes for the first device. I m guessing you just put one probe in front of each device. On the road I love having access to my DVR - No more worries about missing a show or sitting for hours when I get back trying to catch up. It works adequately streaming to my laptop over wireless. The resolution does start dropping as the bandwith drops - to compensate you go to a smaller window, pretty soon you re squinting at a small window. You will need high upload bandwith which is restricted by most internet providers. Only one user can connect to the device at a time. Currently only using a VCR and the internal tuner and only using in a LAN setting. The video is very smooth when the signal is clear (currently only using over the air tv). It recognizes many various devices and setup is a snap. There are two infrared sensors connected in one wire which is very handy. Simply place this in front of the device(s) you want to control. Works great on a wireless laptop and wired desktop (can only use one at a time). Slinging audio and video is very easy to do! Really there are an unlimited number of options for the Slingbox.
